Khammam: All the benefits and welfare schemes of government will not be extended to those involved in the production and selling of illicit liquor (Gudumba), warned District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar.

The Collector chaired a review meeting with District Superintendent of Police Shahnawaz Qasim, officials of Police and Excise departments, Tahsildars and Mandal Development Officers to discuss the prevention of Gudumba, illegal transport of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice and Gutka here at Technical Training and Development Centre in Khammam on Thursday.

Speaking in the meeting, the Collector suggested the officials to take serious steps to prevent the production and selling of illicit liquor which was prevalent in two to three bordering mandals.

“Government benefits should not be given to those involved in production and selling of Gudumba. Their vehicles should be seized and stringent action should be initiated against them,” Collector told the officials.

“By forming committees at village and mandal levels, the officials must take serious steps to put a check to Gudumba production and selling,” advised the Collector.

Though the illegal transport of PDS rice has been under control, officials must inspect regularly the cold storages and submit the report, Collector suggested.

SP Shahnawaz Qasim appreciated the police officials who worked hard and prevented selling of Gutka in Wyra sub-division and suggested the officials to work with the same inspiration to make the district free from Gutka and Gudumba.

Joint Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy, Additional SP Sai Krishna, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Marapaka Nagesh, Project Director of District Rural Development Agency Muralidhar Rao, District Forest Officer Dr Sunil S Hermath, DSP Suresh Kumar, Excise Superintendent G Nagesh and Tahsildars attended the meeting.
