Kakatiya University Academic Senate has approved a budget of Rs 230.63 crore for the ensuing financial year 2017-18 with revenue surplus of Rs 29 lakh. 

Hanamkonda: Kakatiya University Academic Senate has approved a budget of Rs 230.63 crore for the ensuing financial year 2017-18 with revenue surplus of Rs 29 lakh.

The budget was approved unanimously by the members at the 32nd meeting of the Academic Senate held on the varsity campus in Hanamkonda on Tuesday. The University Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna chaired the meeting, while the Dean of Commerce and Business Management Prof M Subramanya Sharma presented the budget.

It is estimated that the university would get revenue of Rs 205.82 crore and the expenditure would be Rs 230.63 crore. With an opening balance of Rs 25.09 crore there would be a surplus of Rs 29 lakh.

Of the total budget, 28 per cent will be spent on salaries, 26 per cent on pensions and 28 per cent on developmental activities. The distance education budget is shown to be Rs 13.61 crore.

While it needs Rs 115.87 crore towards teaching and non-teaching staff salaries, an amount of Rs 75.75 crore is sanctioned by the State government as grant-in-aid. This year, the government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 50 crore as development budget.

An amount of Rs 11.44 crore is allocated for developmental activities in addition to the development grant of Rs 50 crore. An amount of Rs 8.2 crore is earmarked for Sports Board, Rs 1.69 crore for NSS activities, Rs 15 lakh for internet facilities, Rs 34.50 crore is set aside for Examination Branch, Rs 13.70 lakh for Library, Rs 8.80 lakh for Health Centre, Rs 6.50 lakh for welfare and recreations activities and Rs 15.00 lakh for student services.

An amount of Rs 3 lakh has been allocated for library automation while Rs 10 lakh for plantation, beautification of campus, maintenance of lawns and Rs 40 lakh for laying roads.

The V-C said university administration was committed to maintain quality and standards in education. Last year, the CBCS was introduced successfully and this year the university is gearing up for NAAC re-accreditation and expressed hope to get a better rank.

As per the UGC guidelines, courses offered under distance education mode through the School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (SDLCE) limited to Telangana alone. Only affiliated colleges will be appointed as study centres, he noted.

The Ph D admissions will be completed soon and anti-plagiarism software will be used to maintain quality in research.
