With the bankers decision, the coins which are in circulation for about an year now turned to be bane for vendors and traders. With the bankers turning them away, they are a worried lot not knowing what to do with the coins they have.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, Andhra Bank Manager Narendra said the Rs 10 coins were very much legal tender. He also said the RBI introduced the coins for the benefit of people. Circle Inspector of Police Sudhakar said the issue was only a rumour.
According to Amer, a hotel owner, his customers aren’t accepting the coins. Nayam, who is running a pan shop said that coins were piling up at his shop as he was accepting the coins while the customers were refusing to take them.
