Khammam: The Congress has on Monday demanded that the State government immediately withdraw the cases booked against the farmers in connection with the ransacking of Khammam market yard. Congress Legislature Party Leader K Jana Reddy and the TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who visited the market yard, interacted with the chill growers.

“It’s time for the government act swiftly to rescue the chilli growers who are in distress due to lack of remunerative price to their produce,” Jana Reddy said, demanding the administration to provide Rs 2,000 bonus per each quintal so that farmers could survive. He stressed the need for earmarking market intervention fund to stabilise the commodity prices.

Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that Chamber of Commerce has become subsidiary body of the ruling party. Due to this, the middlemen were playing with the lives of farmers. The farmers, who confronted with fake seed menace initially, are now in dire straits due to lack of remunerative price. He criticised the Minister for Agriculture P Srinivas Reddy and Minister for Marketing T Harish Rao for not focusing on the agrarian crisis.

“In Warangal public meeting on April 27, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that farmers should have the right to decide the price of the crops. But it’s other way around as the middlemen are calling the shots,” Bhatti said.

Referring to the cases booked against the farmers, he said that government should feel shy for foisting serious non-bailable cases. He assured that Congress Legal Cell will take care of the farmers against whom cases were booked. Senior leader V Hanumantha Rao was also present.
