Khammam: The Telangana State Formation Day was celebrated on a grand note by paying rich tributes to the Telangana Martyrs at a memorial here at Pavilion Grounds in Khammam on Friday.

After garlanding the statue of Telangana Talli, Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao hoisted a tricolour at Parade Grounds as part of the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Tummala explained the public about the development that took place in three years of TRS rule in the state, particularly in Khammam.

He also spoke about various welfare schemes introduced by the government for betterment of people in the state. Urging people to take part in the developmental activities taking place in the district, Tummala asked them make use of welfare schemes introduced for their economic growth.

Later, the Minister handed over Rs 24 crore of cheques to the beneficiaries along with tricycles and Deepam connections. He also handed over Rs 80,000 to the family members of deceased workers who belong to R&B Department. Tummala also felicitated persons belonging to various fields for their contribution to the growth of the district.

The cultural programmes performed by the students of various schools attracted many. Especially, the dance performance on Bathukamma song, performed by the students of Zilla Parishad High School of Rotary Nagar, and Kasturba Girls School on Mission Kakatiya song, received wide applause from the people.

District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal, District Joint Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepalli Kavitha, MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana, MLA’s Puvvada Ajay Kumar and Banothu Madan Lal, member of TSPSC Dr Chandravathi, DCCB Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu, Rural Development Officer Purnachandram, City Mayor Dr Papa Lal, and Agriculture Market Committee Chairman R J C Krishna were present along with others.
