THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/NEW DELHI: The spot admissions to 550 vacant MBBS/BDS seats in four medical colleges in the self-financing sector, being held in Thiruvananthapuram over the past two days, was suspended on Wednesday following the Supreme Court order.

The Apex court on Wednesday stayed the Kerala High Court order permitting the inclusion of these colleges- SR Medical College and Research Centre Thiruvananthapuram; Al-Azhar Medical College & Super Speciality Hospital, Thodupuzha; DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences, Wayanad and PK Das Institute of Medical Sciences, Palakkad in the allotment process.

The MCI had cancelled the recognition of these colleges after finding that they failed to comply within the guidelines on faculty and infrastructural facilities. The apex court order came on the MCI appeal against the high court verdict.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) had sought urgent hearing of the appeal as the admission process had begum in these colleges. The hearing in the Supreme Court will continue on Thursday. Thousands of students have been camping over the past two days for the allotment.
