As observed, cornflakes when crushed down take less space in a bowl. Likewise, fewer bigger flakes can fill the bowl. The diner tends to consume more cornflakes or muesli if the item is smaller. In the process, consuming more calories.
Researchers from Penn State University proved that the diner will believe the serving size is smaller and pour out more, not realizing the smallest flakes weigh more and have a higher energy content than the other variations.
According to the study, the research shows clearly that, even without knowing, food portions have an impact on the amount eaten and calories consumed.
The team reported their recent results in the current issue of the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
