Swine flu awareness campaign to reduce infections

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to initiate a campaign to encourage the public to adopt safe and hygiene practices to safeguard themselves from swine flu. The campaign would include distribution of pamphlets, wall posters, hoardings, television scrolling among other modes of publicity. It is learnt that the corporation is earmarking a separate budget for the awareness campaign.

Swine flu deaths are increasing by the day. Deputy Chief Minister Dr T Rajaiah on Monday admitted that five deaths have been reported across Telangana due to swine flu this year. Dr Kamath, a specialist, said, “Flu spread fast from infected persons through coughing and sneezing. But it will not spread by eating pork. Washing hands every time one gets back home from outside helps a great deal.”

Avoiding people who are sick and not touching nose, mouth and eyes too are a few precautions that help. It is learnt that GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar held a meeting recently with officers of the corporation to chalk out a programme to start a campaign to sensitise people on the fast spreading swine flu.
