Health Camp by NSSH finds most in Usgaon as anaemic

A health camp at a tribal hamlet Usgoan near Vasai, organized by the Nanavati Super Specialty Hospital (NSSH), has found that most of the villagers and school children in the locality are anaemic.
Majority of the people examined at the camp were found anaemic. Their everyday diet lacks in calcium and iron, leading to poor health conditions. Paucity of essential nutrients like proteins and vitamins in the diet are a cause of concern and need to be addressed urgently. Malnutrition is a major health concern in the area.
"Though we are providing them medicines free of cost, it cannot be a substitute for a wholesome diet rich in necessary constituents,” said Shri Chandrakant Doshi from Lions Club, a part of the health camp team alongside NSSH medical team. A majority of the people, especially the elderly were also suffering from cataract
Messages on nutrition, clean living habits and a disease-free life were in focus at the health camp, which was also attended by students of Zilla Parishad School underwent free check-ups by the expert team from NSSH. The doctors also checked their body mass index (BMI) and checked their eyesight.
NSSH also organized a parallel health camp for young girls of Vidhayak Parishad hostel which is located in the vicinity of the Usgaon tribal hamlet. More than 200 girls of the hostel took advantage of the camp where they had their haemoglobin levels examined and general check-up done. "Findings emerging from the camp pointed that their levels of haemoglobin were low and many were underweight. NSSH team guided the girls and the hostel management on the necessary care required," informed Prajakti Shirsekar, Events Lead, NSSH.
The camp was held in association with Lions Club (Versova). Students from the National Social Service (NSS) unit of NM College also associated with the event.
