Bengaluru : In today’s world, getting fit and staying healthy is more important than ever before. The Urban Fitness Index is the country's first single measurement of fitness created to simplify evaluation, build accountability and track progress. This number, ranging from 1-10, allows users to determine their level of fitness. Based on each user’s Urban Fitness Index, the proprietary Urban Fitness platform presents customized fitness options for individual needs.

The online platform delivers up to 15 locally available fitness options to the user including everything from aerobics, Crossfit, core strength and conditioning, classical dance, and Bootcamp X. Upon choosing one or more options, the platform also helps users track the value and benefit of that option to maximize each person’s progress. Urban Fitness has also introduced the Urban Fitness Seal to help customers select options that meet the company’s high standards. There is no certifying agency to qualify the enormous number of fitness options in India. Urban Fitness is working hard to filter fitness options that do not meet market standards and do not live up to customer expectations. Fitness Companies can apply for the Urban Fitness Seal through the Urban Fitness platform.

Today, at the annual Snowflakes event in XLR8 indoor stadium, Urban Fitness revealed Bengaluru’s Fitness Index compiled from residents around the city: 5.9022. The score, out of a possible 10, means that its residents have an excess amount of body fat compared to what is optimally required with below moderate activity. Bengaluru's Fitness Index will have serious implications should it not improve. The consequences of this include, but are not limited to, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and infertility. The current level of inactivity among Bengaluru’s residents shows that many will also face practical problems in their later years unless they introduce some form of fitness activity, preferably something each person enjoys and is sustainable. Urban Fitness recommends functional training that is effective, systematic, group-oriented, and requires minimal equipment.

The Urban Fitness survey shows that the main contributing factors to Bengaluru’s problem lie in water intake and sleep deprivation. Dehydration forces the body to hold water and creates a craving for food, especially simple carbohydrates, like sweets and fast food. Sleep deprivation has the same effect as dehydration and coupled they create a perfect environment for unfit bodies that will gain fat. For the city to improve its overall well-being and energy levels, we need to start the day with four glasses of water before anything else and try our best to get 8+ hours of sleep each night. Urban Fitness vision is to raise Bengaluru’s index to 7 through awareness, motivation, and support. How are they going to do it? Through their personalized approach - one person at time.
