For the first time in Hyderabad, Proximity Crew will hold a real time dance battle event. The event is a tribute to one of the world’s greatest performers, Michael Jackson. All the B-boys and style dancers of the city will be given a chance to take part in the contest. The event will have solo breaking/B-boying and style battles only. The battle will take place on Sunday, 18 August at Jigyaasa Studio, Ameerpet.

History

B-boying or breakdancing is a form of street dance that came into existence somewhere around the 1970’s. This sort of music is usually associated with hip-hop that has extensive use of breakbeats. This dance form was originated by the Puerto-Rican community. Though it originated in the US, it soon spread to the Korean and English communities. The popularity for this dance form is credited to the media, as it was used in many music videos, movies and advertisements. This sort of dance form in today’s contemporary world is regarded as old-school dance. Back in the day, such dance forms were not used as a form of entertainment but were portrayed in a dance-battle. These dance battles usually took place between ‘crews’ (dancers) to establish their dominion over their neighbourhood or ‘hood’.
