Hydourite, the 100-day annual event to celebrate the spirit of Hyderabad will launch this year’s edition with a 90-minute ensemble dance performance by the much acclaimed ‘Ability Unlimited Foundation’ at Shilpakalavedika on August 15 at 7pm

The 100-day event celebrating the spirit of Hyderabad, Hydourite will kick start with a curtain raiser on Independence Day at Shilpakalavedika with a 90-minute ensemble dance performance, "Celebrating Abilities" by the Ability Unlimited Foundation from Delhi. The dance theatre performance will have disabled artists on wheel chairs and crutches giving breathtaking performances of Bhagawad Gita, Sufi dance, Jai Ho and Vande Mataram. The event also will see the launch of festival theme tune composed by Ashwin Palaparthi.

“The name Hydourite has come from the concept ‘our Hyderabad, our favourite’. Last year was the first edition of the show and we have come up with some fresh ideas to address and involve different age groups. We have lined up many special events to draw their attention,” shared Captain Anand, who along with Achanta V Ramakrishna, Manoj Chandrasekhar conceptualized Hydourite in 2012.

There are many events lined up for music lovers of different genres of music. Ace percussionist Sivamani will be performing with his band ‘New Life’ to address the youth of Hyderabad. The rock-folk Bengaluru-based band ‘Swarathma’ will also be performing as a part of the event. The popular multi-instrumentalist and composer Prem Joshua is coming with his band from Germany on October 26 to perform at Secunderabad Club.

When it comes to world music, we must not forget the man who reaches out to the global audience with our Indian music, Pandit Ravi Shankar. The event has three special programmes that pay tribute to the legend; Instrumental session titled as ‘Sitar Jhankar’ where 10 Hyderabadi sitar artistes perform on stage for the first time will be a part of the tribute. An Indo-Jazz fusion performance by ‘Ravi Chary Crossing’ and the performance of Prem Joshua are the other two. “We purposely put them together as we wanted to encourage our city artists and giving them a chance to share the same platform with some international musicians,” added Capt. Anand.

The other highlights of the 100-day extravaganza include epic dance drama by Padmashri Shobana; Sapthakshara – a melange of South Indian Classical Percussion; Dasha-Avataara-a collaboration of different media forms etc. Though all events allow free entry, prior registrations are mandatory. “We request our city people to please register yourself and collect your passes before coming to the event. We have an online free registration on our website www.hydourite.com.,” informed A V Ramakrishna.

Hydourite will bring specially designed story telling session for children, the first of its kind called ‘Fantasma storiea’ in the month of November to celebrate Childrens’ day where all the participants will get the opportunity to tell stories using illusion and modern technology. With dance, music, fun and game; Hydourite has charted out an interesting 100-day programme that has something for everyone from 8 to 80!
