The members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Greater Hyderabad Central Committee, sent a letter to G Anantaram, Transport Commissioner, on Tuesday, seeking a revocation of GO 108. In the letter they highlighted the plight of auto, tempo and DCM truck drivers by saying that they have to make a living and sustain their families with whatever money they earn throughout the day. But, after GO 108 was passed, the traffic police have been fining these drivers to the tune of Rs 1,000. Charging such high amounts for minor traffic defaults is seriously affecting the drivers and their families.
In the letter they have also asked the government to revoke the GO 108. They have also asked the authorities to ensure benefits for these workers like, Employee’s State Insurance (ESI), Provident Funds (PF) and scholarships for the workers children who are pursuing higher studies.
