Yuva Clinics for youngsters between the ages 9 to 19 are going to be introduced in 14 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC) in the city shortly. Reportedly they will be kick started in the first week of September. Dr Narendrudu, District Medical Health Officer, said, “Funds of Rs 15000 have been allotted for the Yuva clinics by the state government.
Around 30 centres are going to be introduced within the next three months in notified slum areas of the city. The purpose of these clinics is to provide counseling for the youth in various issues like mental, psychological, physical, sociological health, drug abuse and psychiatric disorders etc.
Teenagers cannot share these issues with their parents freely and hence these centres are a portal for them to express.”He added, “Each clinic consists of a doctor, nurse and a counselor to cater to the services of the youth. The staff is being trained at the Yuva Main Centre situated at Niloufer, state government children’s hospital, Hyderabad.”
“The reason for setting up these clinics is that in our Out-Patient wards we observed high prevalence of psychological, sociological and other mental problems in the teenagers. This prompted the Commissioner of Family welfare to begin Yuva Clinics at UPHCs all over the state.
Teens nowadays are addicted to drugs, alcohol etc and are prone to severe psychiatric and behavioural disorders. The situation is even more pathetic considering the fact that most parents are unaware of the problems their children are facing. The clinic will deal with all these issues and maintain complete confidentiality,” he concluded.
