A travelogue ‘Silk Route lo Sahasa Yatra’ by P Lokeshwar, the second travel book by the Hyderabad based writer was launched at Potti Sriramulu University on Tuesday. The travelogue is the outcome of a 55-day trip covered by various modes of transport such as plane, bus, trains, taxis and pony. This is the thirteenth book by Lokeshwar.
The book was launched by Krishna Bai from the Revolutionary Writers Association (Virasam). The writer travels through Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and China. Speaking at the launch, Allam Narayana, Editor, Namaste Telangana said, “It is a rich, philosophical yatra and a good book on the Silk Route.”
Dr Madabushi Sridhar of Nalsar University said that the book is written in lucid language and is like a conversation with the reader. He takes us through cities and villages by describing the socio-economic realities.”
Raghavachary described the travelogue as a serious study of not just travel experiences but a book that delves into important episodes in history. Throughout the book, the reference to important events on the Silk Route with intricate references to the past and a comparison of present day life makes it an interesting read. However certain references to Stalin have been harsh, he felt.
The writer visited museums, parks, places of historical importance and also mingles with the common folk. The description of women and jogis came for critical praise as much as the vivid descriptions of the mountainous terrain. He also compared the Chinese and Indian Railway.
