Vivek Vardhini College, language departments organised a workshop, hoping to further comprehensive understanding among language lecturers as well as language lovers

Vivek Vardhini College, Jambagh, organised a two-day workshop on use of language in media on August 26 and 27. It was conducted in four languages -- Hindi, Telugu, Marathi and Urdu. Dr Anupama, Head, Department of Hindi, said the workshop focused on the day-by-day changes in media. Speakers representing diverse media shared their expertise. Noted personalities from TV, radio, film, stage and print media highlighted the contemporary status of languages.

The main objective of the workshop was present-day language use in India. The beauty of the language is slowly disappearing. There is no purity in any language. So, the language departments organised a workshop, hoping to further comprehensive understanding among language lecturers as well as language lovers.

D Rekha Rani was the chief guest. Actor and director Vinay Varma said, “Giving importance to the originality of the word and not changing its meaning is beneficial for language. Radio and television are in the forefront of media and they should keep in check and ensure that things are not unnecessarily sensationalised.”

The people who spoke in the Hindi session were D Balakrishna Sharma, reporter Hariprasad Vyas, Shrivatsan, R J Aadil and Vinay Varma. The Telugu session involved reporter Poturi Rao, D Kasi Reddy Venkat Reddy, E Gopal Rao, D K B Lakshmi and Akela Raghavendra.

In the Marathi session, Narhardev, Saroj Gharapurikar, Prakash, Fadnis and Shoba Deshmukh spoke about the importance of Marathi in the media. The Urdu session was headed by Sajjadul Hussain, Aslam Farshori and M A Basith. Principal D Rekha Sharma appreciated the organisers of the event. She also thanked D Krishna Kumari, D Sushma Devi and Neela Maavlankar for chairing various sessions.
