India captured on silk.In a bid to provide genuine silk clothing to the silk lovers in the city, Silk Mark Organisation of India, Hyderabad chapter launched 'Silk Mark Vanya Silk Expo-2013' at Shipakala Vedika in Madhapur, on Saturday.

In a bid to provide genuine silk clothing to the silk lovers in the city, Silk Mark Organisation of India, Hyderabad chapter launched 'Silk Mark Vanya Silk Expo-2013' at Shipakala Vedika in Madhapur, on Saturday.

The first lady of Andhra Pradesh, Vimala Narasimhan inaugurated the Silk Expo that was initiated by Central Silk Board and Ministry of Textiles. A wide range of sarees, dress-materials from remote weaving clusters across the country are being showcased at the exhibition.

80 participants from 15 states have put up their stalls at the expo exhibiting exquisite plain printed and crepe silk sarees from Kanjeevaram, Aarni, from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka respectively.

Besides fabrics that include Kalamkari, Pochampalli, Dharmavaram, Gadwal and Upada of Andhra Pradesh, there are Baluchari, Kantha Embroidery, Madhubani, Sambalpuri and Patachitra from West Bengal and Orissa on display.

Also available on dispaly are ValKalam, Jamavar and pure Tanchoi from Varanasi, there are Kosa silks and tribal prints from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Tasaar silk sarees and dress materials from Bihar and Jharkhand, embroidery on Chinnon, Chiffon and Georgette from Kashmir.

Rama Lakshmi, Sericulture Commissioner said, "Silk Mark Expo provides an excellent platform for the silk lovers who care for its aesthetic value to come and experience the most premium silks showcased by the master craftsmen and weavers hailing from far flung weaving clusters of the country.”

Satish Kumar, Deputy Secretary, Central Silk Board (CSB) said that Silk Mark expos have scaled many heights in past few years. He said the expos had strived to assemble the silk lovers of the hosting city under one roof. “It is also providing a platform for all the stake holders to associate, to exchange views and also to experience various innnovations happening in different production centres," he said.

Speaking to The Hans India, Senior Silk Mark Executive Y Srinivas Rao felt that the expos of such kind provide a great thrust to generic promotion of silk as well as building up the brand equity of 'Silk Mark'.
