Today names like K Nagaraj (custodian), stopper-back Rakesh, striker A Rahul and midfielder Rehan may appear unfamiliar because they are virtually unknown save to those coaches and associates who have known them since their first days on a football ground.
However, things may change quite positively for these four from the city who have just had their first brush with national recognition.
Beginning tomorrow they may be in headlines in several cities if they keep tryst with destiny and are lucky enough to cash in on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that has come their way.
For the records, they are the four who have been short-listed by the jury that manned the progress of the just-concluded Hyderabad leg of the ambitiously drawn up Airtel Rising Stars under-16 inter-school football tournament, which was won by Andhra Pradesh Sports School (APSS).
Not surprisingly, two of the lucky boys, Nagaraj and Rakesh, are from APSS while Rehan is from Hira High School and Rehan from Army Public School.
With the famed Manchester United Football Club being the ultimate destination, the four realise that the task is tougher than imaginable because they will be vying for select spots against the best of the contemporary talent drawn from across the country.
They will play alongside others who have been picked on similar lines and will slog it out against the host team in Goa. The combined team will comprise of players from Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Guwahati and Delhi, apart from Hyderabad.
The best of them will get the ticket to London where they will be coached by the finest of brains during the weeklong annual winter camp of the club.
Meanwhile, football circles in the city are hoping that this time round Hyderabad will be adequately represented at the highest level.
In the previous season, the lone beneficiary of the Initiative was Chaitanya, also from APSS.
Things will become clearer once the Goa engagement gets over in the middle of next month. Ironically, and perhaps significantly, even though the seniors are still languishing for want of tournaments, these fabulous four and Chaitanya earlier have demonstrated that with determination and latent skills one can still climb the ladder of success, howsoever, miniscule the end rewards could be. There is a distinct possibility of making the higher grade.
Right now, each of them is dreaming of a stint at Manchester United for that perfect forward thrust to their chosen career.
