We live in the day when technology has surpassed human interaction, the same day which Albert Einstein once feared. We are hooked to our phones round the clock. And as technology advanced, so did the addiction to our flashy gadget. And with the great addiction came along a phobia, which is suffered by most of us. Nomophobia is the name of this irrational fear, the absurd fear of losing mobile phone contacts.

A survey sponsored by SecurEnvoy showed that youngsters (between ages 18 to 34) are more likely to be nomophobic. The level of nomophobia has reached 66 per cent and in the past four years it increased by 16 percent.

The statistics also revealed that women are more likely to be nomophoic than men. Study proved that 70 per cent of women worry about losing mobile and when it comes to men it is only 56 per cent. As men maintain two or more mobiles they tend to be less stressed. Survey had also proved 47percent of people maintain more than one phone.

They are different stages to this phobia; people suffering with nomophobia tends to check their phone 50 to 80 times a day, other symptoms are re-charging battery whenever possible, obsessively checking for texts, emails or missed calls, being incapable of switching the phone off, and even taking phone with them to bathrooms.

Dr Ravindra, psychologist said, “They are very few people who accept the fact that they suffering from nomophobia. Teenagers depend more on mobile phones than their memory power, they are worried about out losing contact with friends and relatives hence they tend to stick with phones 24*7. ”

Suma Latha, house wife said, “Mobile phones have made our work easy, apart from contacts we can save many more details like account numbers and address. It’s becomes so difficult if we lose phones as all details are in it.”
