First shown at the Shanghai Auto Show in April this year, test mules of the A3 sedan without any camouflage have been caught on test quite few times, with the latest been spotted in Mumbai recently.
Looking to capture a new generation of buyers who are looking for a compact, high quality sedan, Audi India hopes that it’s newest and least-expensive sedan will give the brand an edge over the competition in catering to this up-and-coming segment. Mercedes already has the A-Class and the B-Class and BMW too is in the mix with the 1-Series.
Having launched the cut-price Q3S, Audi will further target the entry-level premium segment with the A3 sedan which is expected to make its debut at the 2014 Auto Expo.
Globally, the A3 sedan is available with a choice of two petrol and one diesel engine - 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre TFSI petrol and a 2-litre TDI diesel unit. Expect Audi India to bring the smaller 1.4-litre version with 140PS of power and the 2-litre diesel version with 150PS of power and a healthy 320Nm of torque.
