3856 New Projects on Anvil for GHMC, Property Tax, Cement and Concrete Roads. He has instructed the officials to speed up the process of issuing notice to the defaulters of property tax including government institutions.

Somesh Kumar, Commissioner, GHMC held a review meeting on Saturday. The meeting was held to review all the engineering works that were commissioned in this financial year (2013-2014).
This year 6732 works were sanctioned by the GHMC for a budget of Rs 545 crore. He has asked for all these works to be completed by March 2014. The commissioner has directed the officials to start the grounding works on the tenders which have already been sanctioned and also to speed up the tender process for those projects which were not yet called for.
Somesh Kumar then informed, that the GHMC is proposing on taking up 3856 projects with an estimated budget of Rs 605 crore. Of the 3856 projects 1091 of them are by request of corporators, 1164 works are of MLC/MLA, 67 by MPs, 723 works are of departmental, 252 of public and 559 works are covered in colonies/slums under SC/ST sub plan.
The commissioner has directed the zonal commissioners to hold a circle level meeting at the end of every month with the corporators and other people’s representatives to review the works and propose new works as per public requirements.
As for the employees’ grievances like, furniture, repairs etc, he has asked for them to be sanctioned on a war footing basis.
He has also proposed a shelter for the homeless near hospitals like Gandhi Hospital and Cancer hospitals. He demanded for a feasibility study to be carried out in this regard. He informed that EPF and ESI cards will be distributed to the sanitary workers at Shilpakala Vedika on November 26.
He has instructed the officials to speed up the process of issuing notice to the defaulters of property tax including government institutions. In the meeting it was called for that the Railways will pay 75% of the service tax as property tax as they are paying at Chennai and Mumbai.
The Commissioner directed the Engineer-in-Chief to prepare plans with in a week’s time for making few existing roads as CC (cement and concrete) roads.
