Despite the media reports over deaths of commuters due to bad roads, the authorities are turning a blind eye. Potholes and cratered roads still seem to be dear to the Secunderabad roads. Kharkhana is one such example. Kharkhana a bustling area in Secunderabad; is renowned for myriad discount stores for shopping. But for the past few months, the area has turned into a commuter’s nightmare.

The ugly crater like potholes opposite Sandarshini Restaurant stands as an eyesore. Not only does it raise a cloud of dust, vehicular traffic comes to a screeching halt due to the uneven terrain. Innumerable craters make it very difficult to navigate. Infact, cars do have very low ground clearance and get stuck deep into the pot holes, adding to the traffic woes for the entire stretch which pans for at least 200 metres. What takes about 4 seconds to cross for a vehicle, now stretches for an excruciating long minute. It’s a painful experience as that’s the spot that has been lying in that horrible state for months together now. Riders and drivers’ heart thumps while passing through that stretch. Adding to that, there is bus stop which doesn’t have a shed. People stand on the road waiting for the busses. This also adds to the traffic jam at the accident prone area.

If this is the state of roads, the narrow stretch sandwiched between Secunderabad Club on one side and KV Picket on the other, acts as a traffic bottleneck. Over the years, traffic in the city has grown manifold and this stretch is a worrisome factor as it cannot handle huge traffic during peak hours.
