The nip in the air is palpable and the yuletide spirit is all pervasive. Songs of peace and joy fill the air as groups from different churches in the city venture out in the chilly nights ringing in the world’s favourite ‘Silent Night, Holy Night’ and Jingle Bells apart from several songs in praise of Lord.
From Lallaguda to Lakdi-ka-pul, Neredmet to Nampally, the streets and alleys are filled with songs. Vidyasagar Dodda, member of Sacred Heart Church, Lallaguda who leads the choir says, “It is a wonderful tradition. We go from house to house and the priest blesses each house. Carols send out the message that Christmas is coming.”
Members of different youth wings of churches also plan events leading up to Christmas. David Skinner, a member of St Anthony’s Church, Mudfort says, “We would be starting on Thursday. We have divided the members into different groups who would be going to different parts of the city.
