Nine heritage structures to be protected

FICCI roped in to take care of clock towers in city
Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has stepped forward to protect heritage buildings in the city. The fifth board meeting held on Wednesday agreed to take conservative measures. In the first phase, the preservation of nine identified heritage structures in the city would be the responsibility of Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce (FICCI).
It all started in August, with FICCI submitting application for the conservation of heritage buildings to the HMDA.
This new policy was framed adhering to the recommendations of the heritage company. According to the new policy, public, private and corporates would be involved in preserving the buildings.
Of the nine buildings that would be handed over to FICCI, seven are being managed by the GHMC, one by R & B and one by OU. The HUDA-Heri Committee formed in 1991 conferred on the heritage building status to 166 buildings thus far.
The buildings to be preserved by FICCI are the clock towers in Secunderabad, Sultan Bazaar, Fateh Maidan, Mahbub Chowk, James Street and Moazzam Jahi Market, Nizamia Observatory and others.
