This year, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) launched a slew of new projects. But one factor which is common among all the projects is that it focuses on eliminating unemployment among the youth. Be it Manakuragayulu or RO-Water Purification project, it is yearning to tap the potential of youth in the city.

Centered on the youth, the GHMC launched yet another project called Nagar Mitra. In this project, the youth would be trained for jobs like plumbing, carpentry, painting etc. However this project at present would be implemented only in a few select circles under the GHMC limits. But once it is fully implemented, it can be accessed by all.

Also in this regard, it plans on setting up a call centre where citizens can call and put in a request for a particular kind of service and the call centre would forward the concerned person to the house for works. The GHMC has also planned on putting up a particular rate card for all of these works. Basic training for these people would be imparted at the National Academy of Construction. Presently, there are close to 100 candidates who are already being trained. The call centre for these services would be manned by PG Infotech Pvt Ltd. This organisation would train women from self help groups in the areas of computer and telephonic-skills, apart from database management.

Corporation to coach fitness trainers

Apart from this particular project, it has also announced a new programme which goes by the name of Personal Fitness Trainer. As part of this project, the GHMC officials said that, all participants would be taken to a residential training centre for 45 days at the Raxa Academy in Anantpur District. As there is quite a demand for personal fitness trainers, the authorities have set high-hopes for their employability. If one chooses to be self-employed in this field, the potential to earn would be close Rs 10,000-12,000 per month. People interested in the programme must report at 7am on January 9 at Red Hills Play Ground or on January 10 at Hari Hara kala Bhavan and Chandananagar Sports Complex. The participants would also be required to furnish copies of their identity, educational qualifications and residential proof.
