Hyderabad: Whether the Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE) would be jointly held by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh or would be conducted separately would now depend on the decision of Governor ESL Narsimhan.

  • Guv summons TS and AP Education Ministers for a meeting
  • Both States stick to their ground

The imbroglio could not be solved by negotiations between the education ministers of the two states. The Governor summoned both of them on Tuesday and enquired as to how separate examinations could be conducted when the board was yet to be divided. But both the governments stuck to their respective stands.

According to sources, Telangana higher education principal secretary Vikas Raj explained to the Governor about the provisions in the 10th schedule of AP Re-Organisation Act. Sources said that the Governor was informed that conducting separate Intermediate examinations would not create any problems for EAMCET admissions.

The Governor has summoned both the education ministers over the issue today.Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh human resource development minister Ganta Srinivas Rao requested the Governor for holding common examinations in two states.

“Holding separate examinations would not help the students appearing for EAMCET, JEE and other exams would be at loss as there is weightage for Intermediate marks in these exams,” he explained.

It may be recalled that Telangana government has been strongly pitching for separate examinations while its counterpart wants to conduct common examinations for both the states. Already the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) had issued separate schedule for both the states.

The Telangana government has issued a GO forming an inter board exclusively for the State. However both AP and TS governments have to take a call on the bifurcation of staff and finances of BIE.
