An international workshop on Maritime Asia with regard to peace, prosperity and progress on sea was held in the city recently. The inaugural speech was delivered by Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan, director, Forum for Strategic and Security Studies, New Delhi. He spoke at length about the progress of our nation with the help of sea.

“Seas are the major source of trade and business for every country. A lot of trade happens in waters. Goods worth millions and billions are imported and exported through seas. A lot of pirates are active in the waters and they should be evacuated from the sea, as they harm trade between countries,” he said.

Global ambassador Prem Rawat started his speech with a moral story to wake up snoring audiences. He emphasised on the need for peace right now.

“There is no need to find life on any other planet because we have lived for many light years on this planet and there is only one planet where we can live peacefully and that is earth,” said Prem.

He quoted Albert Einstein saying, “What is created will be destroyed. Hence we should learn the formula to embrace ourselves rather than hating each other. Every year 1.2 billion of food is wasted which means 50 per cent of food production is going waste which can be of use to many people under the poverty line.”

Talking about poverty Prem said, “From how many years are we trying to get rid of it? But have we been successful to eradicate it completely? It’s possible only if we have the idea to find peace within ourselves and help each other.

“All our human needs are same. We can’t live without air for 3 minutes, without water for 3 days and without food for 3 weeks. Then what is the need for war and violence in this world? We should have the strategy in our mind for peace but not in our arms to show off to the world.

We can find the solution for our own problems. We should look at the obvious and find a cure for this problem which is violence. Peace lies within ourselves,” concluded Prem.
