The Hornbill is a large and colourful bird which is displayed in folklore in most of Nagaland’s tribes. Since 2000, various tribes of Nagaland have brought their culture and traditions under one umbrella in a melange of Naga pride called the Hornbill Festival. Held from December 1 to 5 in Kohima, the state capital, and organised by the State Directorate of Tourism, it draws large crowds, which are getting thicker every year. This year, the festival was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
