On May 18, 1956, the college was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act and academic activities started on December 6, 1956 in the picturesque building called Bella Vista. It was constructed in 1905 by Muslehuddin Mohemmed, who rose to be the Chief Justice of the High Court of Hyderabad.

The college, launched on the lines of the Administrative Staff College at Henley-on-Thames in England, is backed by 93 leading organisations in India, comprising public, private sector corporations and State governments.
