Taking forward the ‘e-Town Planning’ (e-TP) system, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to introduce a single challan system for easing the process of issuing building construction permission. The present construction permission conditions will be relaxed and simplified by the single challan system, and efforts are being made for all building construction permissions to be sanctioned within stipulated time. If all goes well, the new system would come into force from January 15.

Devender, chief city planner, GHMC said that work is underway and the system is being tightened to put the new challan system into force. “Once the single challan system comes into force all the charges such as betterment charges, development charges, open space contribution and the likes could come under one challan. This would lessen the hassles of paying challans under different heads and make the work-flow easy,” said a senior official of the town planning wing.

Builders have been asking for a change in the building permission system for a while and the news of the one challan system has been welcomed. The decision to restructure the property system was taken after representation from Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) members to allow payment online.

Narotham of Axis builders says, “The new system would make it easy for builders and people in the construction industry. If the building construction permissions are sanctioned within a stipulated time, it would give a fillip to the industry.”
