A week-long art expo with works by 200 artists is being held to mark the occasion

Chitramayee State Gallery of Art is celebrating its 11th anniversary by conducting an art exhibition till February 1 in the premises. The expo was inaugurated on Monday by MLA Rasamayi Balakrishna. MLC Karne Prabhakar, State Gallery of Art & Multipurpose Cultural Complex’s president BP Acharya, and department of culture’s director Mamidala Hari Krishna were present at the event.
200 artists are displaying their works.
The Chitramayee State Gallery of Art was constructed at Kavuri Hills, Madhapur, was inaugurated on January 26, 2004. The objective of establishing the State Gallery of Art is to promote, preserve and safeguard the paintings of the region and also to showcase the products of rural artisans, particularly handicrafts and handlooms. The gallery has been conducting a large number of programmes and several exhibitions, art camps, workshops for artists and artisans and summer camps for children. The State Gallery of Art is exploring new avenues by conducting workshops during festivals such as Bonalu and Bathukamma. Also, it has been conducting art melas since 2010 to create awareness among people towards the arts and crafts. 225 artists participated in the Art Mela 2014. The gallery also sponsored Rs 1.5 lakh to two young artists Swathi and Vijay who were selected to participate in ‘Biwako Biennale’ in Japan. Another graphite artist was sponsored Rs 50,000 to participate in the Indian Art Fair at Mumbai.
