An expo to cater to silk aficionados.National Silk Expo, organised by the Cotton and Silk Welfare Association, was inaugurated by Tollywood actress Mamatha Rahuth at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), Himayatnagar, on Saturday.

National Silk Expo, organised by the Cotton and Silk Welfare Association, was inaugurated by Tollywood actress Mamatha Rahuth at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), Himayatnagar, on Saturday. Speaking at the inauguration, Mamatha said, “Platforms such as this are required to reach out to women looking for well-designed handmade cotton, silk wear and exclusive home textile. It is great to see the blend of different styles and concepts of silk handloom creations under one roof.”

“The main objective of the exhibition is to encourage weavers and provide a market to them in the handloom industry,” said organiser Jayesh Kumar.The expo would have 70 designers and artisans from 14 handloom weaving states exhibiting gorgeous uppadas, Benaras silks, Gadwals, Dharmavaram, jamdanis, jamawars and sambalpuris.

Dress materials, silk and cotton sarees, suit materials, fashion jewellery, home furnishing designer clothes, Coimbatore silk, Kanjeewaram silk from Tamil Nadu, Bengaluru silk, crepe and georgette sarees and raw silk material from Karnataka would be a part of the expo. The 10-day expo will be open from 11 am to 9 pm till March 23.
