Contract employees working with the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) staged a demonstration in front of the APSACS office on Monday with a charter of demands that included regularisation of jobs, PF, ESI and other amenities. The employees were taken into custody by the police and were later let off. Siva Kumar, president, Telangana Aids Control Contract Employees Association said that the bifurcation of APSACS has to be expedited and the contract employees need to be given permanent jobs.

The agitators said that they have been working for APSACS for years but were not given appointment letters. Fareed, general secretary, Telangana AIDS Control Lab Technicians Union said, “There are 280 lab technicians in Telangana and a majority of them work in Gandhi hospital, Niloufer hospital, Petlaburj hospital and Osmania Hospital.” He further added, “We play a crucial role in the blood banks and have been working without any job security. Our demand is to first bifurcate APSACS and give us our due.”
