“One should know what the basics are, that is the skill. Know what you are doing and where it all came from. With that you can DJ on everything”
Hyderabad, quite evidently is building up as a hub for art and culture events. The year has just begun and the city has already experienced some of the greatest DJs and artistes across the globe. Afrojack, Atif Aslam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Indian Ocean, Arijit Singh, twice and many others have performed in the city and loved the vibe here. To add up to the list of prominent performers, DJ duo Bassjackers will be performing in the city on April 11.
Before Marlon and Ralph head to India, we got to interact with them. Here’s a sneak peek of how the duo got together and their experiences while collaborating with other artistes. How the Dutch duo was formed has an amazing tale of two people of totally different mentalities. “Ralph has always been producing for the fun of it, whereas I was always into clubbing and deejaying. Being high school friends, we once sat down seeing if we could make something cool for my set.
It worked and the rest is history,” observes Marlon. For who’ll are wondering how the name Bassjackers came about, it is because the duo was jacking beats with a lot of bass. What makes the Dutch duo amazing is that they haven’t got tilted likings for crowds in different cities. “The city and place doesn’t really matter to us, we love all crowds,” the duo exclaims.
When we asked the duo what’s on their mind when they start off with a gig and what goes behind choosing which track to mix first, Marlon says, “You always have doubts about some tracks in the set, because you don't always know what's hot or not in a country but I'm prepared for everything! The start has to be good, so we have prepared a really cool intro!”
In today’s world of sophisticated consoles popping every now and then, we asked if it is the console that’s more important, or is it the skills? The duo feels, “One should know what the basics are, that is the skill. Know what you are doing and where it all came from. With that you can DJ on everything.”Bassjackers had collaborated with Afrojack, who recently performed in the city, for “What we live for”.
Marlon feels that Afrojack is amazing, as a person and as an artiste. “Playing with him was really cool, seeing how he could move people,” he added, while Ralph is amazed with the speed Afrojack works. “Never have I seen someone work so fast, he has so much ideas!” he added.
We asked the duo what they are expecting from the city, and they said ‘Energy’, we are sure they will experience it more than what they are expecting. “We are excited to come to India. The production is going to be massive. What we are completely excited about is launching a brand new festival Astra in Hyderabad,” the jack unplugs.
