In the last couple of days of the annual desilting of storm water drains, about 41 water stagnation points have been mended across the city. “Previously water used to stagnate at Mythrivanam, making it difficult for commuters. We have solved this issue,” said a senior official of the GHMC. The nala desilting works will be taken up and the Jawahar Nagar dumpyard’s weight will be measured too. To carry out desilting works, pothole machines will also be pressed into service.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Somesh Kumar said, “Due to the ongoing Metro Rail works, pipes get damaged; the issue is being looked into every Wednesday as all the department officials make site visits to take a stock of the problems.” In all, 321 works are being undertaken at a cost of Rs 28.48 crore, while the project is expected to be complete by April 30 against the practice of having emergency vehicles in June every year, 24 vehicles will be ready from May itself keeping the changing rainfall patterns. Last year the corporation completed 297 desilting works at a cost of Rs 21.22 crore.
