This was the scene across the city when unscheduled rains wreaked havoc for the last couple of days. Many areas across the city like Musheerabad, Amberpet, Tarnaka, Moazzamjahi Market, Sainikpuri, Yapral, AS Rao Nagar, Trimulgherry, etc, were affected. The people there had more than one thing to crib about.

With many electrical lines down or cut off, people were inconvenienced with water woes. A few had to even call in water tankers despite the rain. P Vysamoorthy, a senior resident of Gruha Laxmi Colony in Ward No 5 of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, said, “A large tree fell brought down the electrical lines. It was fortunate nobody was injured.

The Karkhana Police and Marredpally Assistant Divisional Engineer and their emergency rescue team jumped into action immediately and took up repair and replacement works on a war footing.” A Sreenivas, assistant divisional engineer (operation), Marredpally Substation, said, “Such0020incidents were noted at Mahendra Hills, Sarva Sukhi Colony and other places due to heavy rains and winds. We deployed our emergency teams immediately.”

MLA G Sayanna, who resides in the same colony, said, “The SCB, horticulture, police and electricity department took steps to immediately repair the wires and ensure that power supply was restored by Tuesday evening.” A house in Seshachalam Colony was flooded with drain water, due to closure of the public drain line by a construction contractor who is developing a house.

Repair works being taken up at Gruha Laxmi Colony

N Jagan Mohan Yadav, owner and victim of the flooding, said, “A house is being constructed in the plot next to ours for over six months, by Sreenivasa Gupta who is the contractor had closed the public drain by dumping granite stones, bricks and other trash which resulted in it flooding when it rained. The contractor, Sreenivasa Gupta, paid no heed to our complaints.”

In Manik Sai Enclave, Kalyanpuri, Eshwaripuri Colony in Sainikpuri many a tree was uprooted and a lot of electrical poles were beat by the rain. With power expected to be restored by Tuesday night or Wednesday noon at the earliest, people in the colonies had to rent generators so that they could turn on their motors and fill their tanks.

An unusual mist engulfed Hussain Sagar on Tuesday and temperatures in the city were below the usual April averages. Meanwhile GHMC officials said that they are geared up to tackle any situation in the wake of inclement weather. The claimed that they have received more than 200 water logging complaints from across the city on Tuesday and that there were no reports of property damage and loss of lives.
