Cricketer Saurav Ganguly was made the ambassador for Coca-Cola India’s ‘Support My School’ programme for happy, healthy and active schools recently. Adding to the Prime Minister’s efforts under Swachh Bharat and Swachh Vidyalaya, the programme has been successful in revitalising 500 schools across India. Under the programme, over 1.5 lakh schools across 22 states including Telangana were provided with better water and sanitation amongst other facilities.

The announcement of Sourav Ganguly’s association with the Support My School campaign was made in the presence of Union State Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, actor Farhan Akhtar and Coca-Cola India president Venkatesh Kini. On this occasion, Aircel, India’s leading mobile telecom company, announced a contribution of Rs 82,60,000 lakh towards better sanitation facilities in government schools while Allana Private Limited announced a donation of Rs 25 lakh for the campaign.

Speaking at the occasion Sourav Ganguly said, “I believe that it is an important initiative to catalyse a movement towards building healthy, active and happy schools and fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya.”“It is no secret that education is the foundation for a nation to grow and sustain progress in the long run. And good education is not possible without adequate and appropriate infrastructure in schools. It is incumbent upon us citizens of the country to make it our mission to make schools welcoming, so that children study in an appropriate environment,” said Farhan Akhtar.
