The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Co. Ltd (TSSPDCL) formally laid the foundation for the 25mVA power sub-station at the Sultan-ul-Uloom Education Society (SUES) campus in Banjara Hills on Friday. The power substation is meant to solve low-voltage, voltage overload and other power problems in the area.

The society claims that it is the first educational institution in the State to offer land for the cause. Speaking on the occasion, T Srinivas, department’s director (projects) said, “It was very difficult finding land in a prime area like Banjara Hills and the SUES society agreed to our request of providing 220 square yards of land. A state-of-the-art power substation will be constructed on this land, and it will become operational within six months.”

There are 18 substations in the Banjara Hills division (also known Erragadda division) and the new substation will be the 19th.“The land allotted for the substation is on a 99-year lease and translates into a worth of 2.5 crore rupees approximately. The substation will also allow the opportunity of a hands-on experience to students of the MuffakhamJah College of Engineering and Technology (MJCET), a constituent college of SUES once it’s is live. The society is contemplating to sign an MoU with the power department for this purpose,” said Dr Basheer Ahmed, director and principal, MJCET.
