Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has warned that the government will crackdown on lake encroachers and is planning to book criminal cases against the encroachers. Harish met Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Saturday and inspected the Chinarayuni Cheruvu where the civic body is presently clearing water hyacinth through the weed harvester. The removing of hyacinth has been taken up from March 31 in the area of where hyacinth across 21 acres has been cleared.

The machine is one-of-a-kind in the country and more such machines will be deployed to clear lakes across the city. Harish Rao added that Rs 1.5 crore has been sanctioned to beautify Chinarayuni Cheruvu which will include greenery, lighting and a walking track at the lake. Somesh Kumar said that two lakes and two graveyards will be constructed in each circle for which the budget has also been allocated this year. The GHMC is also planning to plant 50 lakhs samplings as a part of Harithaharam scheme.

The machine is one-of-a-kind in the country and will be deployed to clear other lakes in the city
