GHMC to distribute 2,500 bin tippers
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday has initiated the driver-cum-owner scheme to take-up door to door garbage collection in the city. The civic body will distribute about 2,500 auto tippers under the scheme. GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said, about 1000 applications were received so far and the number would go up to 1500 by Monday.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday has initiated the driver-cum-owner scheme to take-up door to door garbage collection in the city. The civic body will distribute about 2,500 auto tippers under the scheme. GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said, about 1000 applications were received so far and the number would go up to 1500 by Monday.
He said, preference will be given to the existing tricycle-owned persons, who have the driving licence and a separate training would be given to youth without the licence. The shortlisted candidates will be asked to purchase (under loan) the tipper under driver-cum-owner scheme (GHMC will help them get the loan) and monthly installment will be paid by the individual.
However, GHMC will contribute towards the monthly loan repayment on successful collection of garbage per month. Somesh Kumar in a release said, each driver will be assigned 600 to 800 households to collect garbage from two bins and transfer to the transfer stations.
They will be authorised to collect a fixed amount from each household and also encouraged to sell the recyclables. By door-to-door garbage collection one can earn around Rs.40,000 per month, he added. Somesh Kumar said, interested candidates were asked to download and submit application available on the website ‘www.ghmc.gov.in’ or contact the civic body’s Citizens Service Centres.
