It seems that the dream for Digital India is all set to get the “girl power”. The US-based global non-profit organisation, ‘Girls in Tech’ (GIT) is coming to India. The better news for Hyderabad is that the city will be the headquarters for the organisation.

It seems that the dream for Digital India is all set to get the “girl power”. The US-based global non-profit organisation, ‘Girls in Tech’ (GIT) is coming to India. The better news for Hyderabad is that the city will be the headquarters for the organisation.

The announcement came from National Managing Director of GIT, India, Sree Vidya Vadlapudi P on Friday. “The purpose of bringing GIT to India is to support and raise the visibility of women in STEM (stands of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) entrepreneurship and innovation,” said the managing director.

The launch will take place amidst notable members like Michael Mullins, Consul General, US Consulate General, Hyderabad; Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary to Government, ITE & C, Department, Govt of Telangana; Vanitha Datla, Chairperson CII-Telangana and Ch Sailaja Kiron, MD of Margadarsi Chit Fund Pvt. Ltd at Hotel Park Hyatt on January 11.

In India, the number of women as per statistics in STEM and entrepreneurship is less but, is on the rise. However, it still needs attention. “It will be our endeavour to provide the right kind of exposure, mentorship, network, enhance skills and knowledge through national and international resource pool, programmes, workshops and opportunities to connect and showcase talent,” said Sree Divya, who is also the Co-Chairperson of FTAPCCI (Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Ladies Wing .

The programmes offered by GIT include Lady Pitch Night, Catalyst Conference, Mentorship Programs, Entrepreneurship, Coding and Design Bootcamps, Hackathons, XChange, Global Classroom, GIT WORK, and others.

The people who have been part of the Girls in Tech events all over the world include Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, Joanna Shields, who served as Digital Adviser to UK Prime Minister, Mike Butcher, TechCrunch,

Reshma Sohoni of Seedcamp, Brenda O’Connell, Twitter EMEA and Éliane Fiolet, Ubergizmo Elisa Camahort, COO of Blogher and Marissa Mayer, CEO and President of Yahoo.
“These names will bring the GIT expertise for the benefit of young girls in the country,” inspired Sree Divya.
