The Rotary district Governor, Gopinath Reddy, highlighted the service projects the Club will be taking up this year at a media briefing at Press Club in Somajiguda on Friday.

The Rotary district Governor, Gopinath Reddy, highlighted the service projects the Club will be taking up this year at a media briefing at Press Club in Somajiguda on Friday.

The Club has streamlined blood donation process through its ‘vehicle service programme’ in which blood will be collected from the doorsteps of organisations and preserved in the Rotary blood bank.
“As of now, two vehicles are available for this feat,” said Reddy.

On the education frontier, Rotary has identified 20 schools in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where sanitation, education are the main areas of interest. About 16,000 illiterate people were identified in 35 villages with the support from government; these people are encouraged to get education under the Akshara Bharathi Programme.

“One of the basic amenities is clean drinking water. To ensure safe drinking water, Rotary has planned to setup 100 water plants in villages and schools. Each plant costs upto Rs 2.5 lakh,” shared the Rotary district Governor.

In relation to this programme, 23 schools in Khammam will have RO plants from January 19. Upto 200 units of water treatment plants in Nalgonda District at a cost of Rs two crore are also planned for installation.

Apart from this, a vocational training centre was inaugurated at Bowenpally on Friday that will provide sewing training to women. “Distributing mortuary boxes was taken up by Rotary many years back.Counselling the deceased family members to donate eyes was linked to this project and more than 200 eye donations happened this way,” informed Reddy.

As part of the annual event, the two-day Rotary District conference will be held, where 1,200 registered delegates will take part at JNTU in Kukatpally from Saturday. Rotary dignitary from Dhaka, Safina Rehman will take part in the conference.
