The authorities of the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) demolished illegal dwellings of hutment at Gandhi Colony in Picket adjoining the bus depot in the area. Following the demolition, the hutmen resorted to protesting in large numbers, which created a tense environment at the scene. Local police intervened and subsided the outcries.

Members of the hut colony, Mohd Chota and D Balakrishna informed The Hans India that their dwellings were allotted house numbers and ration cards, aadhar cards etc were issued for the same address. “We do not get house allotment in the Rajeev Gruha Kalpa scheme.

Now, where do we go?” questioned the members. “We request local MLA and MP to provide alternative accommodation such as in the double bedroom scheme to us,” they requested.

The move came after longstanding efforts by the authorities in having the dwellers vacate JBS’ land, which went in vain. “Consequently, we had to resort to forceful demolition,” said an official. The demolition spree was carried out in the presence of Executive Engineer Mary Rekha, depot managers of Picket, Karkhana and Maredpally police personnel.
