The closing plenary on the second day of the Hyderabad Literary festival was moderated by Chandana Chakrabarti on the topic ‘Lab to Clinic: Trials, Tribulations and ethics’.

The panel consisted of Dr Jyotsna Dhawan, a senior scientist, at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, who is actively working on stem cell research and Dr Evita Fernandez, is an eminent obstetrician in the city.

The discussion opened with Dr Jyotsna demystifying all the hype around stem cells, the current state of research and its viable clinical applications.

She elaborated that the adult body retains some potent cells from its embryonic state which are capable of regenerating cells and rejuvenating tissue that may die over the time as we age or are injured.
