As part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of CSIR, Nobel laureate in Chemistry Professor Kurt Wuthrich visited the premises on Wednesday. Delivering an inspiring lecture titled ‘My life as a scientist: 50 years of basic research’, Prof Wuthrich, who received the coveted Nobel in 2002, inspired the staff and students at the gathering.

In response to a query by a young researcher, he said that his participation in sports had played a vital role in accomplishing his scientific goals. Prof Wuthrich visited the centre for NMR of IICT and recollected his journey from his student age to a Nobel laureate. He appreciated the ongoing research programmes of IICT which are Affordable Healthcare, Adequate Clean Energy, Advanced Materials, Sustainable Chemical Industry,

Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, Environment and expressed that NMR spectroscopy plays a vital role in post genomic era, particularly, in solving complex bio-molecules and their interactions with peptides and drug molecules.

The professor also interacted with students of IICT Zaheer Memorial School and told them the importance of pursuing science as a career wherein, practicing sports should be an integral part of the curriculum.
