The fourth edition of the ‘Biennial Conference of India Motility and Functional Diseases Association’ will begin at KIMS Hospitals in Secunderabad on Saturday. The announcement came from Dr Nitesh Pratap, organising secretary of the conference on Thursday. “The theme of the conference is ‘Frontiers and Future perspectives in GI Physiology and Functional GI Diseases’,” he said.

“The event is an effective platform to deliberate on motility issues that have been plaguing the mankind chronically and globally.” “Motility abnormality conditions can mimic serious diseases and confuses both treating doctors and the suffering patient. Examining and excluding an underlying organic disease is a very important step in gastrointestinal practice,” added the doctor.

“Novel technologies have been introduced into GI practice to study these diseases. Esophageal manometry to study food pipe diseases, 24 hours pH study to study acidity in the food pipe, anal manometry to study chronic constipation and faecal incontinence disorders. By using these diagnostics techniques the diseases are easily diagnosed and can be treated with minimal medication, dietary changes, life style modifications and biofeedback training. The conference will throw light on these issues,” he said.

Dr Bhaskar Rao, MD and CEO of KIMS Hospitals said that the programme will help for development of better management protocols in area of neurogastroenterology and GI motility and will help doctors to understand patient problems in a better way.

“This conference will give an opportunity to discuss the most controversial clinical issue in GI motility and functional GI disease and help the delegates to update their knowledge in the recent research in the field,” Dr Rao added. This conference will have five international and 35 national-level experts in the field, and around 300 delegates from all over India who will attend.
