Unique art without using a brush

City-based artist Gyaneshwar Kamblekar is making a distinct mark by displaying his work of Sutikaari Art. Sutikari art is all about a piece of art that is made of thread or cloth. Gyaneshwar, in his own style of art, doesn’t use a single brush or any colour to paint an image. All he uses is pieces of cloth to create the beauty.

His solo exhibition was recently inaugurated by Excise and Prohibition, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Padma Rao and Katherine B Hadda, Consul General, US Consulate. Actor Ahmed Khan has represented Gyaneshwar’s works at Marriott Hotel and Convention Center recently.

His exhibition features 25 artworks, each with its own beauty and meaning. And out of these 25 art pieces, the majority is the paintings of women. Gyaneshwar states that he wanted to showcase the importance of women through his work.

“I am always passionate about art. Right from my schooling, I have been so much into art. India is full of artists, I hail from a middle-class family and in order to stand out of the box from these artists I wanted to come up with a unique art and today that turns out to be my signature style of work,” shares the self-taught artist.

He only uses velvet cloth and has a collection of almost 50 different colours of cloth material. There are a few art pieces, for which he toiled for six to eight months to create. He uses numerous pieces of cloth to create one image. The minimum time required for one basic size of the painting is almost two months. “Even though this art takes a lot of patience and time, the end result of it is very satisfying,” he shares with pride.

He has an experience of almost 30 years in the field of art and this 55-year-old man is now hitting the market with his creative skills. “Age is just a number. It’s just been two years since I started this Sutikaari Art and I am being identified for my work already.

This art is one-of-a-kind and not many are into across the globe. I get many orders by word of mouth of my friends. The appreciation that I receive for my work boosts my confidence and encourages me to come up with more innovative ideas,” he shares.

Speaking further he says, “The dreams which I get will also soon turn out to be in my art. There was one dream which I couldn’t remember well and the image was pretty blurred but it was later put into art. I made that image using many colours and meaning comes out when one observes it clearly.”

“This is my first solo exhibition of Sutikaari Art and I have plans to come up with many more in near future to showcase my work. I am delighted by the response I received,” he concludes.
