A solo exhibition of landscapes and figurative paintings by Nalgonda-based Artist Dr M Chandramouli is underway at Pegasus Art Gallery; the artist has used his \'Summer Landscapes\' to explore women issues and other maladies of modern times.
A solo exhibition of landscapes and figurative paintings by Nalgonda-based Artist Dr M Chandramouli is underway at Pegasus Art Gallery; the artist has used his 'Summer Landscapes' to explore women issues and other maladies of modern times.
Nalgonda-based artist Dr M Chandramouli, is a retired civil surgeon, a specialist in Ophthalmology. Since childhood, he was interested in paintings, and most of his paintings are done on acrylic colors.
He is showcasing his works for the first time in Hyderabad. He has on display 50 works created using mediums like acrylic on handmade paper, acrylic on canvas and oil paints.
Explaining in detail about his artworks Chandramouli said, “The theme 'Tyrant time and the Futility of Human Greed' depicts the futility of greed in human nature.
The frog that is trying to gobble down smaller insects draws parallel to the greed in human nature to amass more wealth all the while oblivious to the fact that he may be eaten by the serpent. The impermanence and fleeting nature of things we grab onto while life passes by highlights the fallacy of wanting more.”
The other painting titled 'Evolution of Warfare and the Immutable Sorrow' depicts the duality of war. On the left, we see the range of weapons that evolved from the simple bow and arrow of Indian mythological times to the tanks and missiles of the modern day warfare. The dice on the left alludes to the game of chance - played by the few in power, sending their young to fight their wars.
The river of blood sprung from the battles of war, turns into a river of tears on the right. On the right, we see an image of the woman (left behind) in the river of tears, by the graves of the fallen. The means of war has been evolving but the seeds of sorrows, suffering; pain and death that it creates remain a constant.
There is yet another works about 'Woes of Women' as she is mauled and brutalised by the male chauvinism to which she has provided succor as a child. A society of men feed on her, and turn beasts yearning to feast on her flesh.
