‘Monsoon Greens’ is a series of images that explore the landscape around Hyderabad after a few spells of rain by photographer Aquin Mathews. 15 of these pictures are on display at State Gallery of Art. The complete series has been shot using his drone camera.

Aquin Mathewsis a commercial fashion and travel photographer who works between India and overseas. He had shot for various fashion labels and his photographs have been exhibited all over India andabroad.

He shares thathe picks up personal projects where he can use photography as a social tool for change and empowerment. For him, “photographs affect us emotionally and can be a catalyst to action.”

“I am also the Founder and Director of the Indian Photography Festival, one of the largest photography events in India. I work with various foundations to promote the art of photography. I teach photography and have trained more than 2000 students.”

Explaining about his works, Aquin says, “Monsoon is the most awaited season of the year especially in a place like Hyderabad and the effect of the monsoon thereafter in the landscape is pretty interesting.

The complete series has been shot using a drone camera, primarily in the countryside of Hyderabad. The fascinating views direct one to an all-together different perspective which many of us have never seen. This exhibition is part of an on-going series of work. This is one of my personal projects too.”

“I wanted to explore the possibilities of new ways of photographing subjects and hence used a drone to give an all-together different perspective,” he explains.

All the images have been shot from an aerial angle and this has lot of significance in looking down. Aquin was primarily trying to play with the colors and contrast at the same time searching for patterns and shapes around. He wanted to create an experience to the viewer and wanted to transport them to a different world that one can experience only if they visit the exhibition.

“Photography is a wide ocean of creativity and I keeps inspired by seeing the works of my peers, senior photographers etc. I appreciate beauty a lot and that has been the driving force in all my projects.” He shares his inspiration.
