Cinema is a great medium of communication and attracts many young people, want to associate with this medium in any capacity. And in this process, they come to the city and want to make a mark in the industry. Many aspiring filmmakers have already showcased their talent by making short films and sharing on YouTube and other social networks.
Taking a step ahead and to give a platform to such aspiring filmmakers Department of Language and Culture, has recently started an initiative ‘Cinevaraam’ and as a part of it, short films, documentaries, movies will be screened every Saturday from 5 pm onwards at the conference hall in Ravindra Bharathi. After the screenings, the filmmakers also share ideas about the films with the audience.
The initiative is getting a good response from film enthusiasts and filmmakers. Pravan Kumar, a young filmmaker says, “I acted in many short films and uploaded it on YouTube and other social networks and garnered a good response. received many likes and comments. After screening my film in Cinevaram many people came to me appreciated my work. This immediate feedback gave me a boost to do more films. Screening movies here also helped us to get contacts of like-minded people. I’m very happy for this initiative by the Telangana Government and hoping more will come in future.”
Another filmmaker, Suresh Reddy, who screened his movie ‘Cinema Nagar’ on Saturday, says, “Many years ago, I came from Mahbubnagar to Hyderabad to become a director. Till now I did eight short films. My film ‘Cinema Nagar’ explores the problems of budding directors in the film industry. ‘Cinevaaram’ is a great initiative for the upcoming filmmakers.”
We started this initiative on November 12, 2016. And till now we completed 39 weeks and we screened more than 100 movies. Cinevaaram started by screening the short movie ‘Cinema’ of TharunBhascker, director ‘Pellichoopulu’. This platform gives confidence to the aspiring filmmakers.
After the screening, we also discuss the film. We planning to organise a workshop on script writing and direction under the guidance of director Prem Raj in near future. Director Shekar Kammula will be attending ‘Cinevaaram’ on August 19 to discuss the aspects of filmmaking.
